Get ready for more hair-raising, eye-popping magic on “America’s Got Talent” because mentalist duo The Sentimentalists have been announced as the wild card act for next week’s Quarterfinals 2 episode, Gold Derby has learned exclusively.
This spooky act composed of Mysterion and Steffi Kay will join the live shows at the Dolby Theatre after previously being eliminated in the Judge Cuts. The last time the Toronto, Canada natives appeared on “AGT,” they performed mind-bending magic with guest judge Brad Paisley (watch above), so we can’t wait to see what they have in store for America when they perform Tuesday, August 20 on NBC.
Do you think The Sentimentalists can go all the way and join the “AGT” winners list? Two magic acts have prevailed in recent years — Shin Lim in Season 13 and Mat Franco in Season 9 — so America clearly has a soft spot for these types of performances. Then there’s mentalist duo The Clairvoyants, who made it all the way to second place in Season 11, ultimately losing to singer-songwriter Grace VanderWaal.
NBC reveals in a statement: “The Sentimentalists act distinctively showcases two all-knowing minds working as one. The dynamic team, Mysterion and Steffi Kay, are a true reflection of old Hollywood. Mysterion is a self-proclaimed lover of all things strange and unfamiliar. Steffi Kay has the unique ability to see clear visions from the past. During The Sentimentalists first audition, the duo successfully swayed Simon Cowell‘s vote from a ‘maybe’ to a ‘yes’ – allowing them to move on and affording them the chance to astonish superstar guest judge, Brad Paisley! Now, The Sentimentalists are thrilled to be back on ‘America’s Got Talent’ as Wild Cards and are eager to showcase their inimitable way of communicating via what they call their ‘5th and 6th senses.'”
“America’s Got Talent” will announce the full lineup for the Quarterfinals 2 rounds during Wednesday’s live results show, airing tonight at 8:00 p.m. PT/ET. Joining this wild card next week will be 11 other acts that previously made it through the Judge Cuts episodes.
In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson wrote at the time about The Sentimentalists, “This creepy duo had a difficult time impressing Simon and Howie in their initial audition, but hope to nail it this time. I feel like this is a copycat of ‘AGT’ legends The Clairvoyants, but with less stage presence. With all that said, they successfully completed all of their mind-reading tricks and the judges’ jaws were on the floor by the end of this act. Well, all except for Howie who is still unimpressed with their presentation.”
