Dog act Lukas & Falco may have been eliminated during the “America’s Got Talent” Quarterfinals, but they returned to the stage in this week’s Semifinals as the final wild card of Season 14. Unfortunately, their race car-themed act was full of mistakes, with the aging dog not wanting to do pushups and then failing to jump onto Lukas’ back. At one point Falco scurried across the judges’ table and stepped on Howie Mandel‘s red X, but Howie was fine with it, saying he was close to buzzing the act himself. That’s when Simon Cowell, champion of animal acts, interrupted to proclaim he “hated” Howie for saying that. Talk about an “AGT” feud! Do you think Lukas & Falco will make it to the Finals? Watch the live video above, read the judges’ comments below and then make your predictions before Wednesday’s results show.
Howie Mandel: “All right, I’m gonna be totally honest with you. I love the dog and I love you. I was not impressed the last time. The most impressive thing about this act is that the dog was able to read my mind and give the buzzer that I was gonna give.”
Simon Cowell: “I actually hate you right now, Howie. And let me tell you something. Dogs not only watch this show, they vote for this show. Trust me. Yes, there were mistakes, but actually it made me love Falco even more because he picked himself up, he knew it wasn’t going great, but then he got himself back together, ended up giving me a high five. So Howie, [raspberry] to you.”
Gabrielle Union: “I think what we kind of forget is that Falco is a performer too and everyone, you know, sometimes you have off nights. But what we loved is that Falco kept trying to nail it and he was having a great time. That’s what the act is all about.”
Queen Latifah: “Listen, I just want to party with Falco. I don’t know what you all are talking about. Falco has good sense, he’s going for that sandwich right there. Give me a chance to party with Falco. Keep him around, vote for him, why not?”
In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the performance: “After being eliminated in the last round, Lukas and Falco were able to perform tonight as the wild card semifinalist. For their second chance they played up the concept of them as race car drivers, but it was a slow start for Falco who refused to do pushups with Lukas. Eventually Falco found his groove and performed all the tricks in the rest of the routine, including skateboarding and drinking from Howie’s cup while crawling across the judges table. It was a bit of a coincidence that in that trick Falco hit Howie’s red buzzer because he was underwhelmed by the performance and wanted to hit it anyway. Simon disagreed, saying that the mistakes in the performance made him love the act more.”
