And just like that, all of the Golden Buzzers from the audition rounds of “America’s Got Talent” Season 14 have been pressed!
The last judge to do so was Julianne Hough, who saved her Golden Buzzer to the bitter end because she was waiting for someone like 12-year-old Luke Islam to come around. This New York singer auditioned on Tuesday night with “She Used To Be Mine” from “The Waitress,” an absolutely perfect song choice as his biggest dream is to “become a star and make it to Broadway.” It just so happened that Julianne was Luke’s favorite judge, so it worked out that she still had her Golden Buzzer in tact for his audition. Watch the “AGT” performance video above and read the judges’ comments below.
Gabrielle Union: “Luke, you should be incredibly proud of yourself, ’cause you killed it!”
Howie Mandel: “You have so much poise. You talk about a journey. You know, people come on here and hopefully dreams come true. I think that we are watching the beginning of your dream coming true.”
Simon Cowell: “What’s so important, if you move forward, don’t put yourself in a generic music pool. You’ve gotta sing songs as if every one of your performances is an audition for the best producers on Broadway. You’ve really gotta make an impression. This is really key.”
Julianne Hough: “Well, first of all I just have to say I am extremely flattered that you would even look up to my brother and I with a voice like that, with an energy like that. You have such talent and grace. You have something so special. You have an essence inside of you that has given you a gift. I believe that not only are you going to become a star and get your dream to come true, but I don’t think you need to wait that much longer, because –” Julianne then slammed her hand down on the Golden Buzzer, showering Luke in confetti.
In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the performance: “The final audition came from Luke Islam. He sang ‘She Used to Be Mine’ from the musical ‘Waitress.’ After he called Julianne his favorite judge, and knowing that he was the last performer and she still had her Golden Buzzer to give away, we knew he’d be good. Sure enough, Luke slayed his vocal, completely blowing away the judges from start to finish. The final run of big notes were exceptional. After the judges lavished him with praise for his poise and astounding range, Julianne got the opportunity to deliver what we’ve been waiting for her to do all season–the Golden Buzzer!”
