“The Voice” fans have been voting in our overnight poll for which of Andrew Sevener‘s three songs from Monday’s finale performance episode was his best, and a leading 61% said it was his solo cover of Hinder‘s “Lips of an Angel” (watch above). Rounding out our poll results, 29% voted for his original song “Rural Route Raising” and 10% voted for his coach duet with Blake Shelton of “All Right Now.” Do you agree or disagree with Andrew’s fans? In his pre-taped package, host Caron Daly congratulated this Alvarado, Texas native for making it to the Final 4 and Andrew responded, “I’m beside myself. It’s just been a wild ride.” If Andrew ends up winning Season 16, he’ll break the long-standing “The Voice” Instant Save curse. No artist has ever won before after being previously saved by Twitter, so is history about to be made?
As for why he went with “Lips of an Angel,” Andrew’s coach Blake divulged, “I love this song choice. Even though it is a rock song it tends to lean a little bit country. Andrew’s definitely got a southern rock edge to him. He gravitates toward artists like Travis Tritt. He’s rough around the edges. This song is something that Andrew can really sink his teeth into.”
Following Andrew’s performance all four coaches — Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, John Legend and Blake — gave him a standing ovation. Kelly shouted, “What?! That was so good.” John, who is personally rooting for his own artist Maelyn Jarmon, readily admitted, “Obviously you know who I want to win this competition, but I will say if I had to pick among Team Blake, as of now I feel like I would pick Andrew.” And Blake declared, “This is your night.”
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about fans’ favorite performance: “Blake liked the song choice because it blends the genres of rock and country in a way that encapsulates the kind of artist that Andrew is. I love that he got to perform this song last because it was his best of the night and one of his strongest vocals of the season. Kelly was ecstatic for Andrew’s performance and John went as far as telling him that of Blake’s three performers that he’d choose him as the best of the night.”
