Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Anthony Anderson is entering the “Black-ish” episode “Purple Rain” as his 2019 Emmy Awards submission for Best Comedy Actor. This program aired November 13 and was the fourth episode of the fifth season for the ABC show.
In this installment, Dre (Anderson) and Bow (Tracee Ellis Ross) are astonished to learn their children don’t know the music of Prince. Through fantasy segments and a family history lesson, the parents want to teach about the artist’s tremendous legacy.
This is the eighth career nomination for Anderson with no victories so far. For this year’s contest, he is competing against 2018 champ Bill Hader (“Barry”), previous winners Ted Danson (“The Good Place”), Michael Douglas (“The Kominsky Method”) and Eugene Levy (“Schitt’s Creek”) and returning nominee Don Cheadle (“Black Monday”).
