Aurora McCreary (‘Survivor’ 38) exit interview: ‘I can’t understand how anyone fell for’ Rick Devens’ bluff

In the penultimate episode of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction,” the near-unanimous plan was to vote out Rick Devens, but he ruined their easy vote when he won the immunity challenge. The castaways then set their sights on Julie Rosenberg, but Rick bluffed at tribal council that he was going to use his hidden idol on Julie, so Plan C was enacted. That’s when Aurora McCreary was voted out. “It was so predictable” that Rick was bluffing, Aurora proclaimed in her exit interview at the end of the 13th episode. “I can’t understand how anyone fell for that.”

Aurora was echoing her thoughts from tribal council, when she asked her allies in the moment how they could have fallen for the newscaster’s “reverse psychology.” Rick’s bluff clearly worked, with Aurora receiving all five votes from Rick, Julie, Gavin Whitson, Victoria Baamonde and Lauren O’Connell; Aurora cast a sole vote for Julie.

Even though she’s out of the proper game, Aurora is looking ahead to the upcoming Extinction Island challenge that will take place at the top of the May 15 season finale. “My plan is to get pumped up for the competition,” she said. “It’s either gonna get me back in the game or it’s gonna be my final ‘Survivor’ challenge.”

Next Wednesday Aurora will face off against the 10 other voted-out castaways for a shot at returning to the game: Reem Daly, Chris Underwood, Aubry Bracco, Joe Anglim, Eric Hafemann, Julia Carter, David Wright, Kelley Wentworth, Dan “Wardog” DaSilva and Ron Clark. The losers will remain on the jury, though it’s unlikely they will return to the Edge of Extinction since that twist will have served its purpose

As per recent tradition, Reem served as Aurora’s welcome wagon at the deserted island. “Welcome to the Edge,” Reem rasped. When Aurora called her “Miss Positivity,” Reem fired back, “This has been a long 30-whatever-the-F***-days.”
