‘Avengers: Endgame’ is less than $8 million away from ‘Avatar’ box office record – time for a Justin Bieber remix?

So close and yet so far. “Avengers: Endgame” has been inching towards the global box office record held by “Avatar,” and as of this writing, after 12 weeks in theaters, it is now less than $8 million from the title. Maybe Marvel could remix the movie with Justin Bieber to move it back up the charts.

“Avatar” made $2.7880 billion globally. Now “Endgame” is at $2.7808. To put that in perspective, “Endgame” has grossed 99.74% of “Avatar’s” global total — unless you count for inflation of course, at which point the decade-old “Avatar’ would be even harder to catch. Over the July 12-14 weekend the Marvel extravaganza raked in another $1.692 million at the domestic box office, but it lost a quarter of its theaters, and it’s likely to lose quite a bit more when the next Disney blockbuster, “The Lion King,” opens on July 19.

Where’s Bieber when you need him? On the Billboard charts these days, a surefire way to get a commercial boost is an all-star remix. Bieber helped “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee spend 16 weeks at number-one. Ed Sheeran‘s “Perfect” got a shot in the arm from his duet remix with Beyonce. Currently, Lil Nas X has ruled the charts with “Old Town Road” with an assist from Billy Ray Cyrus. And then Billie Eilish added a Bieber verse to her hit “Bad Guy,” perhaps in the hopes of finally unseating “Old Town Road.”

Marvel already re-released “Endgame” with new material. So maybe they could try re-releasing it again with Bieber as Captain America — or, Captain Canada, as it were. Perhaps edit Beyonce into Wakanda? Lil Nas X as Nick Fury? I’m only half kidding; Disney owns so much intellectual property they could literally insert “Avatar’s” Na’vi into the battle against Thanos if they wanted to. Throw in a few Jedi while you’re at it. Or “Avengers: Endgame Remix” featuring the Muppets. Okay, that last one I might actually pay good money to see.
