‘Big Brother’ 21 episode 13 recap: Did the Veto save Jack Matthews or Jackson Michie on Wednesday, July 24? [UPDATING LIVE BLOG]

After running the “Big Brother” house for the first three weeks of Season 21, both Jack Matthews and Jackson Michie found themselves nominated for eviction by Head of Household Cliff Hogg. The physical beasts previously sounded off in the Diary Room over Cliff’s decision, with Jack saying he’ll “regret” nominating him and Michie putting Cliff on his “hit list.” With an all-important Veto competition on the line, Jack and Michie had the chance of saving themselves on Wednesday night, but how did things play out?

9:00 p.m. — “Previously on ‘Big Brother’!” In Sunday’s 12th episode, Cliff returned from the grave by not only winning the Camp Comeback Comp but also becoming the newest Head of Household. Cliff immediately set his sights on the Six Shooters — Jack, Michie, Christie Murphy, Tommy Bracco, Holly Allen and Analyse Talavera — in order to break up the powerful group. He also created a bond with Isabella Wang and Nick Maccarone, who were on the outs after Gr8ful fell apart. So how will the Veto affect this week’s nominations? Let’s go!

9:10 p.m. — Cliff nominated the two alpha males in the house and Cliff is feeling pretty proud of himself, but Christie still holds her Diamond Power of Veto so Cliff is feeling the pressure to win the Veto. Jack and Jackson are both fuming that they’re on the block but still pretty cocky they’ll get what they want. Meanwhile, Tommy bursts into tears until Jack comes and holds him in his burly, loving arms. Christie is grateful she’s not on the block, but with two of her alliance members in danger, the pressure is on her to use her Diamond Veto. At this point, she’s telling them she will use it if one of the Six Shooters wins the Veto.

9:15 p.m. Kathryn Dunn and Isabella go to speak with Cliff and he tells them they have to stick together. Nick joins in the conversation and tells Cliff they will protect him next week if something goes horribly wrong. For the first time this season we see the dreaded slop! Have Nots are here and they must eat nothing but slop, take cold showers and sleep in the Have Not bedroom. Cliff names Tommy, Kathryn, Christie and Jackson the Have Nots for the week. Next, Cliff goes to speak with Christie and she gives him a big hug and tells him it’s going to be a challenging week for her because everyone knows about her power. Cliff doesn’t try to tell her what to do, but he really hopes she doesn’t derail him from getting rid of Jack or Jackson.

9:25 p.m. — The Six Shooters are hanging out when Jackson asks who has the second power. Little does he know that his best friend Jack is holding it! Finally Jack reveals his secret power is to redraw the Veto players. Honestly, it’s not the most interesting power but it may pay off at some point. Are Six Shooters really willing to blow two powers this week just to save Jack or Michie? We’ll find out. It’s time to pick players for the Veto competition! Joining Cliff, Jack and Michie in the Veto competition are Sam Smith, Holly and Jessica Milagros. Scratch that! Jack has chosen to activate his Chaos Power. After the redraw, the players this week joining Cliff, Jack and Michie are Kathryn, Sam and Analyse. Was it worth using the power? Not really, but at least Analyse would likely save Jack if given the opportunity.  Cliff tells Nick and Isabella that they’re toast if he can’t win the Veto. If Six Shooters win and Christie uses her power, they’re basically hopeless. Yikes!

9:35 p.m. — It’s time for the Veto competition! The houseguests head out into the backyard which his set up like a lake with a couple of jet skis sitting on the water. Players will start this competition on their watercraft, strip down to their swimsuit and then take a dip in the lake. While undressing, they must keep three buttons pressed on the jet ski. The more buttons they aren’t pressing, the faster their clock runs. Once players jump in the lake they hit a red button and the person who completes this the fastest will win the golden Power of Veto! Kathryn is pretty entertaining to watch because she’s twisted up like a pretzel and always provides fun commentary from the Diary Room. Cliff and Analyse both struggled, but Jack and Sam are especially awful at this. Michie is much more careful and strategic and I’m guessing this Veto will come down to Michie or Kathryn.

9:45 p.m. — It’s time to see how everyone did in this week’s Veto competition. The player who was able to strip their way to the Golden Power of Veto is Michie. Wow! This is going exactly how he planned. Of course the Six Shooters are thrilled and they fully expect Christie to use her power. Cliff is gutted that his HOH reign has been destroyed, but he’s determined to find another path. Christie is scared to use her Diamond Veto and of course she starts crying in front of everyone. Michie keeps telling her to calm down and Christie is sick of him. Christie thinks Michie is selfish and trying to dictate every move of their alliance.

9:55 p.m. — Christie goes to consult with Cliff about her power. She tells him that Michie is pressuring her to use it. Cliff tells her he fears Jack and Michie running this entire game. In hopes of recovering some sort of safety for himself, Cliff considers putting up Bella himself and securing Christie’s protection. Christie can guarantee his safety from others for two weeks and from her indefinitely. It’s a tough offer to refuse at this point.

9:59 p.m. — It’s time for the Veto ceremony! As expected, Michie takes himself off the block. Christie rolls the dice and chooses not to initiate her Diamond Veto. Cliff keeps his word to Christie and nominates Bella for eviction, placing her on the block next to Jack. Cliff wanted to remain true to his word. Christie is thrilled she got to save her power and gained a new ally in Cliff. Bella is devastated and Nick is disgusted. So who will be evicted on Thursday? Jack or Bella?
