‘Big Brother’ 21 episode 3 recap: Which 2 houseguests did Christie Murphy nominate for eviction? [UPDATING LIVE BLOG]

Heading into Sunday’s third episode of “Big Brother” Season 21, Head of Household Christie Murphy‘s power in the game was just beginning while Camp Director Jackson Michie‘s influence was coming to an end. Which two players would Christie nominate for eviction, potentially ending their “Big Brother” experience? Since this New Jersey boutique owner was in a physically strong six-person alliance with Jackson, Jack Matthews, Isabella Wang, Nick Maccarone and Holly Allen, they likely had nothing to worry about. She’s also close with Tommy Bracco because of their relationship in the real world. So whom did Christie put up on the block?

8:00 p.m. — “Previously on ‘Big Brother’!” After only one day in the “Big Brother” house, David Alexander was sent packing thanks to the BB Camp Director twist. That left 15 players still in the game, with Jackson being tasked with pairing up everyone for the Head of Household challenge. The grueling endurance comp resulted in Christie claiming victory, but now all eyes are on her as she prepares to make the first nominations of the season. How will it all play out? Let’s go!

8:10 p.m. – The alliance of six is thrilled that Christie has won the HOH and they think they’re sitting pretty. Ovi Kabir pulls Christie aside to compliment her win and hope he can win her over for his own safety. She doesn’t seem to be responding to his olive branch. Meanwhile Kathryn Dunn and Analyse Talavera are questioning where they stand in the game. Kathryn is nervous she’ll be seen as an easy target since she was the first to fall in the HOH competition. Gradually, the girls all gather around and gossip and Isabella is upset. She immediately runs to tell Jack and Jackson that the girls are against them. Since Kathryn is running her mouth, Christie may have found her first nominee.

8:20 p.m. – Jack loves Tommy Bracco’s game play and decides to invite him into the alliance of six. This is good news for Christie, who wants to work with Tommy anyways and now she doesn’t have to convince the others. Tommy is basically in love with Jack and couldn’t be more thrilled about this offer. Meanwhile, Nick Maccarone offered the same deal to Analyse and she’s just thankful to be included. There’s officially a majority alliance in the “Big Brother” house and they’ve decided to call themselves “Gr8ful.” Christie pulls Cliff Hogg III into the group to talk. She tells him she plans to nominate Kathryn, and tells him she plans to put Cliff up as a pawn next to Kathryn. Cliff isn’t thrilled with the idea of being a pawn but tells her what she needs to hear and says it’s fine. Next, Christie talks to Kathryn and reverses the discussion. She tells Kathryn she wants Cliff to go home but Kathryn will be the pawn. Kathryn plays it cool to Christie’s face, but she’s pissed.

8:25 p.m. – Nick, Tommy and Jack are spooning in the bed when Ovi overhears them talking about who’s on the bottom. Ovi realizes he’s missed out on some sort of alliance and wants to do something to save himself. He runs to speak with Analyse, not knowing she’s one of the “group of 8” he overheard them discussing. She goes straight up to the HOH room to let Christie know Ovi is on to them. The alliance is now concerned about Nick’s big mouth since clearly he’s who Ovi heard this from. They’ll have to diffuse this situation immediately.

8:40 p.m. – The houseguests are all herded into the living room to find out there is a “Whacktivity.” They’re not sure what that means, but they’re pumped! They all head to the backyard to choose their “Whacktivity.” There are three options: “Chaos,” “Panic,” and “Nightmare.” Over the next three weeks, they’ll compete in a competition. Only five houseguests will play each week and the winner gets a secret power. A random draw has determined the sign-up order. Competing in this week’s activity are: Kathryn, Isabella, Nicole, Cliff and Ovi. In “Nightmare,” wild animals have gotten into the camp trash. Their job is to correctly identify the smell of each of the three trash cans in front of them. The first one to label each three trash cans correctly will receive a secret power. Kathryn and Cliff are both in danger of elimination this week and thrilled to be playing. After round one, nobody was correct and they’ll have to keep smelling. After round two? Still no dice. Finally, after three rounds, Ovi has won the competition and secured the special power! He doesn’t let anyone else know that he’s won.

8:55 p.m. – Ovi heads to the Diary Room to learn what his secret power is. He has the ability to turn one HOH rank into a nightmare. He can use his Nightmare power to wake everyone up in the middle of the night and force the HOH to name two new nominees. He has the ability to use this power once during the first six nomination ceremonies in the game. That’s powerful! Ovi plays dumb with the other houseguests in hopes that they won’t know he has the power. Ovi decides to run up to the HOH room and start a new alliance, without fully realizing which alliance has already formed. Half of the alliance of eight is in the room listening to Ovi’s plea, and decide to form a fake side alliance with him. The fake “Fab 5” will be led by Ovi and includes Christie, Analyse, Jackson and Jack who have no intention of honoring it. Meanwhile, Kemi Fakunle is the next to pull Christie aside to make sure her voice is heard in some way. Kemi suggests Christie put Ovi on the block. Jack is suspicious of Kemi and thinks she’s another player to watch out for. Now Kemi is seen as a scheming threat and could be headed for the block.

8:59 p.m. – It’s time for the fist nomination ceremony of the season! Christie has decided to nominate Cliff and Kathryn. She says it’s not personal, but she wanted to keep it as fair and unbiased as possible. This nomination ceremony is adjourned! That’s a wrap for tonight!
