“Big Brother” Season 21 is only a week in, but already it’s one of the most dramatic in recent memory. First David Alexander was sent packing (for now) because of a brand new BB Camp Director twist, then Christie Murphy won Head of Household, then Ovi Kabir earned the way-too-powerful Nightmare Whacktivity, then a massive alliance of eight (dubbed “Gr8teful”) was created, then Christie nominated Cliff Hogg and Kathryn Dunn for eviction. Whew! Got all that? Tuesday’s episode brought about the first Veto challenge of the season, so which houseguest claimed victory and did they use the necklace to remove Cliff or Kathryn from the block?

8:00 p.m. — “Previously on ‘Big Brother’!” In Sunday’s third episode, one of the biggest alliances in the history of the game, “Gr8teful,” was solidified with its members consisting of Christie, Jackson Michie, Jack Matthews, Isabella Wang, Nick Maccarone, Holly Allen, Analyse Talavera and Tommy Bracco. This octet now has unprecedented power in the game, with the other seven players (Cliff, Kathryn, Ovi, Jessica Milagros, Kemi Fakunle, Nicole Anthony and Sam Smith) likely to be picked off one by one. Will tonight’s Veto challenge shake up Christy’s nominations? Let’s go!
8:10 p.m. – Following the nomination ceremony, Christie is leaning towards sending Kathryn home, but she’s going to let the universe guide her. Meanwhile, Kemi and Isabella are forming a friendship and gossiping about who they could form showmances with. The other alliance members of “Gr8ful” are getting insecure about how close Isabella is getting with Kemi and they discuss backdooring Kemi.
8:15 p.m. – Kathryn is getting closer and closer with Michie (Jackson), who refuses to get into a showmance. At least he says that until they’re in bed making out. This could cause another fracture in the alliance of eight! Christie and Analyse catch them flirting in the middle of the night and they’re furious. Jealousy is taking over this alliance and it looks like it could fall apart soon. Christie wants Kathryn GONE!
8:30 p.m. – It’s time to pick players for the Veto competition! Joining Christie, Cliff and Kathryn are Sam, Jack and Nicole. Then the doorbell rings! Season 20 champ Kaycee Clark surprises the houseguests and will host this competition. In “Food Fight,” players will have to catch certain foods while being absolutely showered in sloppy grub. Each round is worth more points than the previous and the player who earns the most points wins. Round one is onions, round two is meatballs and round three is strawberries. Cliff is absolutely atrocious and manages to earn zero points. Sam was the only to player to catch an onion for one point, nobody catches the five-point meatball and a few houseguests manage to snag a few 10-point strawberries. When the points are calculated, Sam edges out Jack by a score of 21-20. Sam has won the Golden Power of Veto! Watching them all get slimed in slow motion was pretty entertaining.
8:40 p.m. – “Gr8ful” is nervous about Sam winning the Veto because he’s not in their alliance. I’m not sure what they’re so worried about, it’s not like there aren’t plenty of alternatives if he pulls down Cliff or Kathryn. Jack and Nick pull Sam aside to pick his brain. Sam wants to pull Cliff off the block because he’s trustworthy and deserves to stay. Next, Jack explains to Christie and Michie how the next three weeks need to play out: Kemi this week, Jessica next and Ovi third. It looks like he just can’t possibly relate to a single minority in the house. I don’t think Jack even realizes what a pile of garbage he sounds like. Christie is more concerned about Sam than Ovi, but Jack is a total dictator. Christie is annoyed with Jack and can do with out his mansplaining. Meanwhile, down in the hammock Nick is forming a bit of a showmance with Isabella. She’s trying to use her pull to convince Nick that Kemi needs to stay. Nick pulls Christie aside and asks if he still plans to put up Kemi. Christie never really wanted to backdoor Kemi in the first place, she was just going alone with the house. Now she has to figure out what’s best for her game.
8:50 p.m. – Christie is having a conversation with Jack and confesses that she’s conflicted about their current plan. She flat out tells Jack she’s not putting Kemi on the block. Jack flat out tells Christie that Kemi is going home, but Christie fights back saying that Kemi leaving does her no good. Christie is over Jack at this point and ready to put his ass on the block. Next, Christie goes to Tommy for advice. She’s in tears and says she’s frustrated that she’s playing her game for other people. She doesn’t want to make waves and she has no interest in backdooring anyone at this point in the game. She hopes Sam won’t use the Veto and she doesn’t want to evict Kemi. Then, Christie tells Nicole that Jack is controlling her and although Nicole acts surprised, she’s actually salivating about all the tea that’s just been spilled. Nicole has never had any idea what’s going on in this game. Christie didn’t come to play the “Jack Show” and she’s crumbling under the pressure.
8:55 p.m. – Christie pulls Sam into the HOH room to try to convince him not to use the Veto. She bursts into tears and tells him backdooring Kemi isn’t sitting well with her. Sam is like, “Huh?” He never knew there was a plan to backdoor Kemi. Christie spills her guts and in the process lets Sam know there’s an entire alliance working together and Jack is trying to dictate everything. Sam has promised Cliff he’d use the Veto, and asks can they get rid of Jack? They’re not sure they would have the votes. Then they wonder, could they put up Ovi? Christie has agreed to not punish Sam for using his Veto on Cliff. She just has to make a decision. Does she make a huge move and put up Jack? Does she put up Ovi because she’s not sure where he stands? Or does she just go with her alliance and backdoor Kemi?
8:59 p.m. – It’s time for the Veto ceremony! Sam sticks to his word and removes Cliff from the block. For her replacement nominee, Christie puts Ovi on the block next to Kathryn. It looks like Ovi could be the next houseguest to go home and he hasn’t even gotten to use his secret power! Of course I was hoping she’d make a huge move and gun for Jack, but we’ll see how this all plays out on Wednesday night’s live eviction episode. That’s a wrap for tonight!
