‘Big Brother’ 21 episode 5 recap: Was Ovi or Kathryn evicted live on Wednesday, July 3? [UPDATING LIVE BLOG]

It’s finally here — the first live eviction episode of “Big Brother” Season 21! The first week inside the house was tumultuous, with one person already banished from the game (at least for now) and one more primed to head home on Wednesday night. Thanks to Sam Smith winning the Veto, Head of Household Christie Murphy went into an emotional tailspin about whom to put up as a replacement nominee. She ultimately decided to ignore the wishes of alliance dictator Jack Matthews, who wanted her to nominate Kemi Fakunle, and put up Ovi Kabir instead next to Kathryn Dunn. So who was evicted live and forced to have a one-on-one chat with host Julie Chen Moonves?

Below, check out our minute-by-minute “Big Brother” recap of Season 21, Episode 5 to find out what happened Wednesday, July 3 at 8/7c. 8:00 p.m. — “Previously on ‘Big Brother’!” In Tuesay’s fourth episode, the Gr8ful alliance was nearly destroyed when Christie felt so bullied by Jack that she decided to go her own way in regards to the replacement nominee. During her dramatic breakdown, Christie alluded to her “group” to both Sam and Nicole Anthony, suggesting that this eight-person alliance may be doomed before it even begins. Will the house decide to evict Ovi or Kathryn during tonight’s episode? Let’s go!

8:10 p.m. — Julie promises a live twist will take place in the game tonight that will have everyone’s head spinning! For the first time ever, the evicted houseguest will not be going home. They will continue to live inside the “Big Brother” house in a twist that will change everything. But let’s rewind to earlier this week and find out how things played out after Ovi was put up as the replacement nominee for Cliff. Christie’s new target is Ovi because Kathryn is easy to manipulate and doesn’t seem like a threat. Meanwhile, Kathryn is happier with her odds against Ovi than she was against Cliff, so we’ll see how things play out.

8:15 p.m. — Christie tells both Kathryn and Ovi that they’re pawns because she doesn’t know how the house will actually vote. She’s hoping whichever one stays won’t be mad at her. Kathryn seems fine with everything, but Ovi is crying as he speaks with Christie and Jack. Next, Jack goes to speak with the rest of his alliance and expresses his frustration with Christie. Jack really wants Kemi gone, but nobody seems too upset with Christie at this point. Later in the kitchen, Cliff tells Ovi that he’s got his vote, but that’s of little consolation to Ovi. Ovi’s off to campaign and believes he’s convinced Jackson, Kemi and Nicole to keep him around. Meanwhile, Kathryn is getting paranoid. If she’d just relax and sit back she’d probably survive this week, but she’s getting on everyone’s nerves by asking if they’re conspiring against her. She literally said, “Are you bitches conspiring against me?” over ten times.

8:20 p.m. — Ovi pulls Nick Maccarone aside to chat and Nick admits that Ovi is likely heading home this week. Next, Ovi targets Jack and Michie (Jackson) and tosses a Hail Mary. He tells them about his secret power and promises to bring either one of them off the block if they get put on the block next week. Jack and Michie are dumbfounded. Michie doesn’t believe that Gr8ful will actually make it to the final eight, and he wants Ovi’s power. Will they keep him around? The live vote is next!

8:35 p.m. — It’s time first live vote and eviction of the season! Ovi and Kathryn both give brief pleas for safety, but neither were memorable. Kathryn, however, clearly plans to trademark her “Big Brother” line, “Are you bitches conspiring against me?” How did the votes play out? Votes to evict Ovi: Analyse Talavera, Nick, Tommy Bracco, Jessica Milagros, Holly Allen, Jack, Michie, Nicole, Isabella Wang, Cliff, Sam and Kemi. No houseguests voted to evict Kathryn. But Ovi isn’t leaving just yet! “Camp Comeback” officially begins next!

8:45 p.m. — Julie reveals that Ovi has been evicted by a vote of 12-0 and as he begins saying his goodbyes, the trumpets begin to sound and everyone is ordered back into the living room. Julie reveals that, for the first time ever, the evicted houseguest will not be leaving the “Big Brother” house. They will continue to live inside the house as members of “Camp Comeback” members. These “Camp Comeback” members are not in the game. The won’t vote or compete in any competitions, but they’ll continue to play the “Big Brother” social game because one of the first four players evicted will return to the game. Next, everyone but Ovi will go play in the next HOH competition. Ovi will head upstairs to “Camp Comeback,” but he won’t be alone! In walks David Alexander, who was banished last week! He, too, has a chance to return to the game. The HOH competition is next!

8:55 p.m. — It’s time for the HOH competition! As outgoing HOH, Christie is not eligible to compete. In “BB Fireworks Quiztacular,” houseguests watch a series of fireworks displays. After each round, Julie will ask a question about what they just saw. If they get the answer right, they stay in the game. If they get it wrong, they will be eliminated. The last player standing after seven questions will be the new HOH. Nick was the first eliminated followed by Tommy, Holly and Kathryn. Next to go are Analyse, Isabella, Kemi, Cliff and Sam. Then, Nicole and Michie go down leaving Jack vs. Jessica. In the final round, Jack pulls out the HOH win and Gr8ful will remain in power for now.

8:59 p.m. — Julie checks in with David in Ovi and asks what they think of their new digs at “Camp Comeback.” It’s not the most comfortable room, but they’re happy to be in the game. Ovi has no hard feelings and he’s not bitter towards anyone who voted him out. But David would like to have a conversation with Jackson, who is ultimately the person responsible for his banishment. That’s a wrap for tonight! The TV schedule now moves to Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.
