That ‘classic’ power returning to ‘Big Brother 21’ better be the Coup d’Etat

At the end of Thursday’s episode of “Big Brother 21,” Julie Chen Moonves teased that the final Whacktivity Comp will see the return of a “classic BB power.” And all we have to say is it needs to be the Coup d’Etat. If only because we’ll get to see clips of Jeff Schroeder struggle to say “coo dee taw” over and over again. It truly never gets old.

Lest we forget, Jeff was the last person to win the Coup d’Etat, way back in Season 11. The Coup d’Etat gives the holder the power to overthrow the HOH’s nominations and choose the replacement nominees, with the HOH, Veto winner and original nominees immune from being nominated. Sure, that’s almost like what Ovi Kabir‘s Nightmare Power does, but who cares? Plus, there’s a 75 percent chance he won’t return to the game and thus won’t be able to use it.

The Coup d’Etat was first introduced on “Big Brother: All-Stars” and was won by Mike “Boogie” Malin, but he never used it. Jeff had two weeks to use the Coup d’Etat in Season 11 and deployed it during Chima Simone‘s second HOH to save Russell Kairouz and Lydia Tavera. He nominated Jessie Godderz and Natalie Martinez, resulting in the former’s eviction.

The twist hasn’t been seen on the American version of “Big Brother” since, but its legend endures, partially because of its power and partially because someone off camera literally had to tell Jeff how to pronounce it to save us all from more verbal mangling.

The final Whacktivity Comp is for the Panic Power, so the Coup d’Etat would definitely send the house into a panic. Analyse Talavera, Christie Murphy, Jessica Milagros and Nick Maccarone are the competing houseguests (Kemi Fakunle was the fifth competitor, but she can no longer participate now that she’s in Camp Comeback). Since Nick is HOH, this would be a massive week for him if he could secure the Panic Power too. But if it is the Coup d’Etat, it’s unlikely he’ll publicly overthrow his own nominations.

But whatever the Panic Power is, it’s definitely going to be better than the Chaos Power.
