Reese Witherspoon‘s passionate speech in this week’s episode of “Big Little Lies” is earning raves from Gold Derby’s readers in our TV forums, with some even saying she “was the MVP” of the week. The Oscar-winning actress for “Walk the Line” (2005) is sometimes overshadowed by her co-lead Nicole Kidman on the HBO drama, but “The End of the World” was a great spotlight for Witherspoon. A week after Madeline’s affair was exposed to Ed (Adam Scott), she breaks down at a school assembly about teaching climate change to kids, declaring, “Most of us know most endings to most stories f***ing suck, right? Let’s just get real. There aren’t a lot of happy endings for a lot people.”
Also in this week’s episode, Mary Louise (Meryl Streep) went to the police to demand an update on Perry’s (Alexander Skarsgard) untimely death, Jane (Shailene Woodley) refused to have Ziggy (Iain Armitage) tested to prove he’s Perry’s son, Renata’s (Laura Dern) daughter was hospitalized for a panic attack, and Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) seemed to finally be rebounding thanks to her mother’s visit.

ScandalWife: “This was definitely another week where everyone was great but for me Reese was the MVP followed closely by Laura.”
Tyler: “Reese continues to absolutely nail it. I’m declaring now that with Meryl and Laura being basic locks for noms at this point (and deservingly so).”
Montana82: “Reese’s Emmy tape (I know they don’t matter but still). Laura Dern is killing it this season followed closely by Shailene. Dern has me roaring on the floor.”
Wattsgold: “Is Renata a new icon? It sure feels so.”
Nicholas22: “Every time Laura Dern opens her mouth I am howling. Renata is an unbelievable character. Only Dern could pull off some of the most ludicrous lines in television and still be completely believable.”
Kellis: “Reese is just so good in this role and it’d be a shame if she went out with any recognition for it.”
