Thank god it’s the weekend because we’re going to be watching the new “Big Little Lies” Season 2 trailer on repeat.
HBO dropped the full trailer on Friday (watch above), giving us a longer look at the Monterey 5 trying to keep their big little secret under wraps. Things seem back to normal at first for Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern) and Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) — Madeline is slinging insults at school drop-off with a mouthful of cupcake — but they’re all still haunted by Perry’s (Alexander Skarsgard) death.
Not helping matters is that the case is still open — “This detective is just trying to put the pressure on us, so that one of us breaks,” Madeline tells Celeste — and the arrival of Perry’s mom, Mary Louise (Meryl Streep), who knows her son’s death was most definitely not an accident.
“You left some things out, didn’t you,” Mary Louise grills Celeste. “You were planning to leave him. And you learned of his infidelity just 10 seconds before he died. Oh, you left that out too.”
Nothing gets by Meryl, guys.
Elsewhere in the trailer, Celeste confesses to her therapist (Robin Weigert) that she still feels responsible for Perry’s death, the kids start second grade, Madeline and Ed seemingly renew their vows (or it’s a flashback), Jane has a new beau, and Renata does this:
The Emmy-winning series, directed by Andrea Arnold and written once again by David E. Kelley, premieres Sunday, June 9 on HBO.
