Blake Shelton‘s rock artist Ricky Duran slowed things down this week on “The Voice” by taking on The Beatles classic “Let It Be” during Monday’s semifinals episode. After performing so many high-tempo tunes on NBC’s reality TV show, Ricky settled on a more intimate song that he hoped would make his late parents proud. Do you think Ricky did enough to advance to next week’s finals? Watch “The Voice” video above and then make your predictions before Tuesday’s results show.
“Ricky!” Blake exclaimed as he jumped up to his feet. “You know, the one thing that I asked of you this week in the rehearsals was, ‘Man, if there’s anything that you’ve got left in the gas tank vocally that we haven’t seen yet, right now is the time.'” Blake then smiled, “Dude, you just gave the vocal performance of your life, no question about it.”
If Ricky does go on to win “The Voice,” he’d become the seventh champion from Team Blake to do so following Jermaine Paul (Season 2), Cassadee Pope (Season 3), Danielle Bradbery (Season 4), Craig Wayne Boyd (Season 7), Sundance Head (Season 11) and Chloe Kohanski (Season 13). Of course, Ricky faces tough competition from fellow Team Blake artist Kat Hammock, who’s also still in the running to win Season 17.
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about Ricky’s performance: “Ricky begins his performance at the piano and shows another side to his musical abilities. Vocally he sounds great and injects a bit of soul into the song with his raspy tone. He advances to the front of the stage and swaps out the piano for a guitar and plays a solo for the audience to further add to the performance. This might be my favorite performance of the night so far!”
Earlier in the episode Ricky teamed up with Team John Legend’s Will Breman for an 80s duet of “Your Love” by The Outfield. Both artists gave it their all by singing and rocking out on their guitars, making for one of the more entertaining duets of the season.
