Brian Justin Crum only made it to fourth place on season 11 of “America’s Got Talent” in 2016. But he could well win the first season of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.” On Jan. 28, he won the superfans vote on episode 4 of this spin-off of “AGT” and secured a spot in next month’s final. (Watch his winning performance of “Your Song” in the video above.)
In so doing, he’s already done one better than two of the acts that did better than him on “AGT” – runners-up The Clairvoyants and third place finisher Jon Dorenbos didn’t make the cut when they contended on earlier episodes of “The Champions.” (Season 11 winner Grace VanderWaal isn’t taking part in this special edition of the reality competition.)
Last week, Dorenbos lost the superfan vote to opera tenor Paul Potts, who had won season 1 of “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2007. Also put through last week was pint-sized singer Angelica Hale, who got Howie Mandel’s Golden Buzzer.
Crum will face off against them as well as this week’s Golden Buzzer — Kechi, who won over Simon Cowell — and four other acts. “Britain’s Got Talent” 2009 runner-up Susan Boyle got the first Golden Buzzer of the series when Mel B was won over by her in episode 1.
Also set for the final are the two other acts that have won the superfan votes: stand-up comic Preacher Lawson (episode 1) and rock opera singer Cristina Ramos (episode 2).
