Awkward! CBS posts Wednesday’s ‘Survivor’ episode on Twitter and Facebook because of ‘technical difficulties’

Were you one of the “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” fans affected by reported “technical difficulties” during the Wednesday, May 1 broadcast? Well, CBS heard your complaints and acted swiftly by streaming the season’s 12th episode, aptly titled “Awkward,” on Twitter and Facebook beginning at 8 p.m. PT / 11 p.m. ET.

The official “Survivor” Twitter page announced in a statement, “Hey #Survivor fans. For those on the east coast who experienced technical difficulties during tonight’s broadcast, a full episode link will be posted at 11pm ET.”

According to some fan accounts, several minutes of the episode were presented without dialogue, only loud background music. The sound later fixed itself, but then disappeared again during tribal council. In the episode, the seven remaining castaways — Victoria Baamonde, Ron Clark, Lauren O’Connell, Julie Rosenberg, Gavin Whitson, Aurora McCreary and Rick Devens — got to experience the highly anticipated “loved ones” challenge. Ron and his husband won the challenge, with Ron then getting to pick two people (and their loved ones) to join him on a picnic; he chose Julie and Gavin.

At the end of the episode Ron’s devious plan of gifting his expired advantage menu to Rick backfired when Rick pulled out a real immunity idol. Rick called out Ron and Julie in front of the entire jury, accusing them of wanting him to look like a fool on TV. Ron ended up being voted out and sent to Extinction Island, where he expressed regret over what he did to Rick. See Ron’s “Survivor” exit interview.
