Courtney Hadwin’s ‘America’s Got Talent’ redemption is short-lived as she’s voted out of ‘AGT: Champions’ [WATCH]

One of the acts that fans of “America’s Got Talent” were most looking forward to seeing return to spinoff series “AGT: Champions” was Courtney Hadwin, the 14-year-old rocker from Hartlepool, England. Would the Season 13 finalist be able to redeem herself after last year’s shocking loss? Or would she once again be eliminated before the end? Unfortunately, Courtney’s return in the second episode was short-lived as the Superfan voters sent her home and decided to keep opera/rock singer Cristina Ramos instead.

“I’ve always been quite shy and I do find it difficult to talk to people,” Courtney admitting during her pre-taped package, “but I feel like when I sing I turn into a different person.” Courtney reflected on getting her Golden Buzzer from Howie Mandel and then making it all the way to sixth place on “AGT” Season 13, admitting, “Growing up, I always wanted to be a rock star. ‘Champions’ is a second chance for my dream come true.”

Courtney took a big risk by performing an original song, “Pretty Little Thing,” instead of covering a classic rock tune as she’s done in the past. Dressed all in purple, Country danced around the “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” stage with the confidence of a seasoned pro, even going down to give the four judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie — high fives.

The judges were floored by her performance, with Simon remarking that she’s improved from last year to now, particularly with her “interaction with the audience.” Mel B told her that she is a champion, while Heidi compared her to a powerful lioness. After revealing to Howie that her song was an original, the audience erupted in wild applause. Unfortunately, the 50 Superfan voters opted to send Cristina through to the Finals, putting an end to Courtney’s shot at redemption.

In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about Courtney Hadwin’s performance: “For an original song she managed to maintain all of her star appeal and remained engaging with the crowd and the judges who were all smiles throughout. Simon told her that her confidence has definitely improved, Mel acknowledged how self-knowing she is for a 14 year old and Heidi admired how effortlessly cool she is as performer.”
