Cristina Ramos still can’t believe she is going to be in the final of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.” This rock opera singer, who’d won “Spain’s Got Talent” in 2016, readily admits in a post-show interview that she was shocked when she won more votes from the superfans than ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer.
After all, that teen talent had won “AGT” in 2017 and has gone on to headline her own live show as well as a Christmas special that earned high ratings for NBC. While Darci Lynn was well-known to the voters, who are long-time viewers of “America’s Got Talent,” Cristina was a complete mystery. And, as she explains in the video above, that might have been what gave her the edge.
While Darci Lynn opened the show on Monday, Cristina was the fifth of the 10 acts to perform. Before she sang, she told the judges that this was her first time in America. She wowed them and the crowd with her mash-up of rock and opera on the Queen anthem “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
In the final, Ramos already has competition from another singer — Susan Boyle who got the Golden Buzzer from Mel B after her soaring rendition of the Rolling Stones rock classic “Wild Horses” on the premiere episode on Jan. 7. Also contending in the final are stand-up comic Preacher Lawson, who won the most votes from the superfans at the end of episode 1 and daredevil act Deadly Games, who got the Golden Buzzer from Heidi Klum in episode 2.
