Even though Crystal Rose and Kayla Seeber didn’t earn chair-turns during “The Voice” Season 16 blind auditions, their journeys weren’t quite over as fifth coach Bebe Rexha asked both artists to return for the Comeback Stage. Just like last season, the Comeback Stage is a place where eliminated artists have a chance of ultimately returning in “The Voice” live shows. So who won this all-important battle between Crystal and Kayla and advanced to the next round? Watch the third Comeback Stage video above.
Bebe brought Crystal back because “she has something special” with a “soulful voice.” As for alternative artist Kayla, Bebe wanted to give this quirky singer another chance because she’s “able to take a risk” with her song choices. Both artists got to pick their redo songs, with Crystal choosing “At Last” by Etta James and Kayla going with “What You Know” by Two Door Cinema Club.
Crystal’s rehearsal started great with Bebe raving that she loved her “low range,” but then Crystal became overwhelmed with the situation and started crying. “I was pushing Crystal because I want her to be great,” the coach later added. During Kayla’s rehearsal Bebe told her, “I think you can go higher than you think you can go,” and not to be worried about her voice cracking. “Get out of your head a little bit,” Bebe instructed.
Since both artists had “a very similar energy,” Bebe had a tough time picking this week’s winner once their final performances concluded. Ultimately Bebe went with Kayla, but didn’t give a specific reason for why she was cutting Crystal. Upon hearing the good news, Kayla exclaimed, “I’m just beyond grateful for Bebe for believing in me. Just the fact that she picked me validates everything that I’m doing.”
As the winner of this third Comeback Stage showdown, Kayla will now face off against one of the eliminated artists from the upcoming “The Voice” battle rounds. The other two Comeback Stage champions were country duo Nathan & Chesi and soulful singer Kanard Thomas. Season 16 of “The Voice” continues next Monday on NBC.
