Ally Brooke gave a ‘Beauty’ of a performance on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ for ‘Disney Night’ [WATCH]

Fifth Harmony singer Ally Brooke lucked out on “Dancing with the Stars” during “Disney Night.” She got to be the first celeb this season to perform a contemporary dance, and she was the only celeb who drew that dance style that night. That style tends to draw higher scores because there’s an emphasis on emotional expression and judges are looking for fewer specific technical details. No need to worry about unauthorized lift calls from Carrie Ann Inaba or complaints about “messing about” from Len Goodman. But while it’s an advantageous style, you’ve still got to perform it well. Do you think Brooke pulled it off? Watch her performance above.

Brooke and her pro partner Sasha Farber performed to the title song from “Beauty and the Beast,” which ironically played during a ballroom dance in the original animated film. But Bruno Tonioli thought Brooke’s performance was “one and a half minutes of absolute happiness,” and that she threw herself into it “with fearless commitment.” Inaba appreciated how Brooke doesn’t have the usual lines you see from a formally trained dancer but still managed to create shapes that were unique to her. And Goodman called it a “cracking routine” that was “smooth as butter on a hot muffin.”

Not only did she get high praise from the judges, she got the highest scores of the night — and the highest scores of the season. They gave her 9s across the board for a total of 27 out of 30. Those were the first 9s the judges gave, and though a few other dancers also scored 9s after her, she was the only dancer who got them from everyone including the usually stingy Goodman. She has now been at the top of the judges’ leaderboard for the last three weeks in a row. Might she start rising in our Mirror Ball Trophy predictions?
