‘Dancing with the Stars’ voting changes may actually be afoot! ‘We hear you,’ Tom Bergeron assures

Hey “Dancing with the Stars” fans: Your wish may be TPTB’s command. Tom Bergeron revealed on Twitter on Tuesday that he just came from the first Season 28 meeting and it sounds like it proved to be very fruitful.

“Just had first meeting re: Season 28 of @DancingABC. Major takeaway; we hear you,” he wrote.

SEE The upcoming ‘format changes’ on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ better be voting tweaks or else

Could it be? Will the show actually change the voting structure like you all and Alfonso Ribeiro want? That’s certainly what it sounds like. We already got hints of this last month when ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke shared that there will be “fun format changes” when she show returns after an extended hiatus this fall. The show sat out the spring season for the first time in 12 years following the controversial 27th installment that saw Bobby Bones, who was mediocre at best (and he’d fully admit this — this was his entire narrative), beat out top-level contenders. It was hard to ignore at that point how much the voting had been impacted by dwindling ratings and viewership.

Bergeron wouldn’t confirm or deny that he was referring to voting changes, but you’d be an idiot if you can’t read between his 240-character teases as he replied to numerous fans.

Oh, wait, not that last one.

But note “at the time” in the third tweet; like we’ve also said, Bones did win fair and square based on the current rules, and no one can take that from him, but it’s time for some changes to adapt to the changing times. And hey, we’ve already offered some free ideas!

“Dancing with the Stars” will air Mondays at 8/7c this fall. A premiere date will be announced later.
