Fans of Darci Lynne Farmer, don’t despair. While this singing ventriloquist lost the votes of the superfans at the end of episode 2 of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” she could still end up in the final in a few weeks time. She would need to be picked by the judges as one of the wild cards. And based on their praise of her performance, that looks like a real possibility. The regular version of “AGT” includes this element, so it seems a safe bet that this spin-off series will too.
Indeed, in the most recent season of “America’s Got Talent,” opera singer Daniel Emmet — who was a wild card pick of the four judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel — was brought back for the quarter-final and made it all the way to the live Top 10 show.
So Darci Lynne may well have gotten it wrong when she said before she performed on the January 14 episode, “There’s only two acts that are gonna be in the Finals out of 10. I am hoping, hoping that I am one of those two.” When the results of the superfans vote came in, host Terry Crews announced that she had lost to Cristina Ramos.
That 2016 winner of “Spain’s Got Talent” wowed the crowd with her rock opera style singing of the Queen hit “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Darci Lynne must have been regretting her declaration earlier in the evening to her long-time supporter Mel B, “I always love a good competition.”
Darci Lynne said that just before sher her puppet pal Oscar opened the show. Oscar readily admitted to being nervous, but then wails a medley of the Tina Turner classics “Nutbush City Limits” and “Proud Mary.” When they were finished, the four judges leapt to their feet. Simon said he was “literally blown away” while Heidi called Darci Lynne “one of the most unique” acts they’ve ever had.” Howie echoed that sentiment and praised her for being “a seasoned professional” while Mel B readily admitted that she had “seasoned professional.”
