The 2019 Daytime Emmy nominations haven’t been decided yet, but the television academy is already picking the winners. The Daytime Emmys are unique in that the nominees and winners are all decided in one round for drama acting awards. Starting on February 21, blue ribbon panels began judging sample performance reels submitted by actors in seven drama series categories and five digital drama categories. Check out the entire list of pre-nominated performers here.
The pre-nominees, who were revealed on January 24, were decided in an earlier round during which eligible voters viewed sample acting clips online from everyone submitted for consideration. The top 10 vote-getters in each category became the pre-nominees whose complete acting reels are being judged now to determine the final results. The only Emmy hopefuls who were exempt from that initial vetting process were the contenders for Best Younger Actor, Best Younger Actress and Best Guest Performer; all actors entered in those races proceeded directly to the blue ribbon round.
“The Young and the Restless” was the leading drama series with 21 pre-nominees, but it was followed closely by “General Hospital” with 20 and “Days of Our Lives” with 19. The last remaining network drama series, “The Bold and the Beautiful,” trailed with 13. We’re forecasting those seven acting categories in our predictions center as well as Best Drama Series, where the four remaining soaps are usually all nominated by default but the victory is up for grabs. The nominations will be announced on Wednesday, March 20. Who do you think will make the cut, and who in these crowded fields do you think will win?
