During Night 5 of “The Voice” blind auditions, Denton Arnell took on Drake‘s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” and earned a “yes” vote from new coach John Legend. This 31-year-old Chicago resident grew up in a musical family and currently works in his youth church’s musical arts department. After dating his girlfriend Tiffany for three years, Denton decided to use his “Voice” blind audition as a way to propose to her … and she said yes (watch above). Hey Denton, since John was the only coach who turned his chair around, should he be the one to officiate your wedding?
“Tiffany has a great heart, great spirit. She’s very supportive of everything I do,” Denton said his pre-taped package. “I realize I want to spend my life with her, so I do have a ring. She has completely no idea. Like, this is probably not even a thought. Today is a very big day for me. My nerves are pretty up because a lot is riding on me getting a chair-turn today, so I’m excited.”
When Denton stepped out onto the stage to perform the Drake hit, Tiffany anxiously watched backstage. “Come on, babe,” she prayed. It turned out she had nothing worry about as John ended up pressing his button 20 seconds into Denton’s performance. The other coaches — Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton — enjoyed his voice but did not turn their chairs around.
“Welcome to Team Legend!” John shouted after Denton finished his performance. “Chi-town in the building. Your tone is wonderful. You took a song that could have been a lot less exciting, but I think you were really creative with the melody and made it your own. I’m excited to have you on my team, brother.”
Denton asked if it was okay to “share this moment” with his girlfriend, and a visibly nervous Tiffany then stepped out on stage to join him. Just as Denton was attempting to get down on one knee to propose, he and Tiffany accidentally bonked heads, which caused all four coaches to laugh hysterically. In the end Tiffany said yes, which means a wedding is in the near future. Should John do the honors of officiating Denton’s wedding?
