The last time the GFORCE girl group appeared on “America’s Got Talent,” judge Simon Cowell suggested they start taking more control of their music. Well, that’s exactly what they did during Tuesday’s live episode, so when Simon scowled that he now wasn’t a fan of their songwriting, Gabrielle Union quickly reminded Simon of his previous advice. “Wait a second, who else remembers that Simon told them that they needed to take more control over their music and they should write their own songs?” Gabrielle declared as the Dolby Theatre audience applauded in delight. Do you think GFORCE will advance to the next round on “AGT”? Watch the performance video above and make your predictions before Wednesday’s results show.
GFORCE came out on stage dressed all in blue against a pink and purple backdrop. Their original song included lyrics like “we don’t wanna be no copycats” and “we’re gonna do our own thing,” a stark reminder that this group of 10-13 year olds are striving to be as original as possible.
“I’m feeling the GFORCE! I’m filled with girl power,” Howie Mandel proclaimed after their rocking performance. As for the other judge critiques, Gabrielle shouted that she’s “so proud” of the girl group, Julianne Hough called their collective talent “so powerful,” and Simon raved they were “fearless.”
The viral girl group from Toronto, Canada has been compared to a younger version of Spice Girls, complete with catchy nicknames: there’s Zen G, Boss G, Speedy G, Hype G and OG (as in Over-prepared Girl). “We’re all best friends,” the talented tykes previously admitted.
In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the performance: “First to take the stage tonight was the five young girls of GFORCE who have big dreams of becoming the next girl group in pop music. Like the Spice Girls before them, GFORCE is all about the girl power, a theme they really pushed tonight with their performance of an original song about ‘doing their own thing.’ It was a stellar way to open the live shows, complete with full choreo and a bright stage set that they made the most of. The judges were high on their energy overall, but Simon wasn’t a fan of the songwriting and advised them to stick together as a group after the show because in a few years they’ll have a shot at making it. Luckily Gabrielle was on top of it and reminded everyone that Simon also advised them that they should write their own songs–so BAM! In your face, Simon!”
