“Everything you did brought you were you are now, where you belong … home,” we hear in the official trailer for the eighth and final season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” which premieres on Sunday night, April 14. Do you think you know who will be left on the Iron Throne after all is said and done? Watch above.
Predictably, the new two-minute clip is light on plot details. Vengeful Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) appears to have her sights set on another victim; she opens the trailer by saying, “I know death. He’s got many faces. I look forward to seeing this one.” We also catch glimpses of Cersei (Lena Headey) smirking triumphantly, as she is wont to do, but we know she’s on Arya’s kill list, so she should probably wipe that look off her face before it’s too late.
Cersei currently occupies the Iron Throne, but she’ll be lucky if there even is a throne by series’s end. There’s still the threat of the Night King and his army of wights and White Walkers, who breached the wall in the seventh season finale. Indeed, Jorah (Iain Glen), Brienne (Gwendoline Christie), Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) are all shown preparing for a climactic battle — or likely several climactic battles.
“Thrones” is coming off of its third Emmy win for Best Drama Series in 2018. Overall it has won a whopping 47 prizes, which is already more than any other primetime drama or comedy, and if it claims a fourth Drama Series title this year it will tie the all-time record with “Hill Street Blues,” “L.A. Law,” “The West Wing” and “Mad Men.” Will the show add to its historic haul?
