Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Gwendoline Christie is entering the episode “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” from “Game of Thrones” as her 2019 Emmy Awards submission for Best Drama Supporting Actress. This program aired April 21 and was the second episode of the eighth season for the HBO show.
In this installment, Brienne of Tarth (Christie) vouches for the loyalty of Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who apologizes to Bran (Isaac Hepstead Wright) for crippling him as a young boy. Jaime formally annoints her as a knight, a long-held dream.
This is the first career Emmy nomination for Christie. For the 2019 contest, she is competing against rookie contenders Julia Garner (“Ozark”) and Fiona Shaw (“Killing Eve”) and three actresses from her own show — Lena Headey, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams. Headey and Williams have contended before.
