“The Voice” fans have been voting in our overnight poll for which of Gyth Rigdon‘s three songs from Monday’s finale performance episode was his best, and a leading 50% said it was his original song “Proof I’ve Always Loved You” (watch above). Rounding out our poll results, 48% voted for his solo cover of Earl Thomas Conley‘s “Once in a Blue Moon” and 2% voted for his coach duet with Blake Shelton of “Take It Easy.” Do you agree or disagree with Gyth’s fans? In his pre-taped package, this Singer, Louisiana native revealed, “Man, this is a song that I’ve had sittin’ in my back pocket for a long time. I think everybody is born with a soulmate out there, with somebody that they love. This song talks about that.” Blake then confirmed that Gyth was the only artist in the Top 4 who wrote his or her own song for the finale.
Gyth said that when he originally conceived of “Proof I’ve Always Loved You,” he was just starting to date his now-wife. “Words just flew onto the paper,” he remarked about the writing process for the song. Coach and mentor then reflected on their time together throughout the season, admitting, “It’s been a blast!”
Following Gyth’s live performance, Blake jumped up and gave him a wild standing ovation. Kelly Clarkson remarked it was “so cool” that he wrote this original song. Adam Levine raved, “It’s just very evident right now that you are a major contender in this thing and all the best to you, man.” And Blake insisted, “That was a great song, dude. You sang the hell out of it. You’re the total package.”
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about fans’ favorite performance: “Gyth’s original song, ‘Proof I’ve Always Loved You,’ is a song he says he’s had in his back pocket for a long time. It’s also the only song in the finale that one of the artists has a writing credit on, so for Gyth this was a deeply personal song for him to deliver. The song is definitely something that everyone can connect with and so even without his strong performance of it, I think it’ll be one of the most streamed songs from the night. Gyth has a star quality that comes through in every performance he gives and that’s why he’s been so strong this season.”
