She’s baaack! Heidi Klum, who served as a judge on “America’s Got Talent” between 2013 and 2018, will return to the franchise when spinoff series “AGT: The Champions” debuts January 6, 2020 on NBC. As previously reported, Klum joins regular judges Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel as well as “Britain’s Got Talent” alum Alesha Dixon on the Season 2 panel; Terry Crews returns as host. “Champions” brings back popular “Got Talent” acts from around the world to compete for a brand new title, with last year’s inaugural winner being close-up magician Shin Lim. Are you happy Klum has returned to the “AGT” franchise? Vote in our poll below.
Season 2 of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” filmed months ago, before news broke that Season 14 judges Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough had been released from their contracts. In 2019 these two joined up with the long-running franchise to replace Klum and Mel B at the judges’ table after they left to pursue other opportunities. Both Klum and Mel had served as “AGT” judges from Season 8 to Season 13. There is no word yet on who will replace Union and Hough in Season 15, though Cowell and Mandel are set to return.
In the past couple of weeks “AGT” has come under fire for Union’s departure. As first reported by Variety, the actress complained of a “toxic culture” on the set of the long-running reality TV show, with SAG-AFTRA now leading an official investigation. NBC released a statement saying they are “working with Ms. Union through her representatives to hear more about her concerns.” Union’s eye for talent will definitely be missed on “America’s Got Talent,” particularly as she was the judge who gave a Golden Buzzer to blind and autistic singer Kodi Lee, the ultimate winner Season 14.
Throughout her six years on the show Klum anointed such memorable Golden Buzzer acts as Makayla Phillips, Angelina Green and Sal Valentinetti. She also had a memorable on-again, off-again “showmance” with comedian Taylor Williamson. Klum’s fascination with the more obscure acts prompted her to proclaim her all-time favorite to be The Professional Regurgitator, the man who swallowed various items and then threw them back up on command.
Klum is a German model, businesswoman and actress who won an Emmy in 2013 for hosting “Project Runway” alongside Tim Gunn. She and Gunn will next be seen in “Making the Cut,” Amazon’s new fashion reality TV series, debuting in 2020.
