Helen Mirren‘s new HBO miniseries “Catherine the Great” finally premiered on Oct. 21 and it could help her rule one category at the Golden Globes: Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actress.
Mirren is currently in a three-way tie for the most wins — two — with Ann-Margret and Judy Davis. A seven-time nominee in the category, Mirren prevailed for “Losing Chase” in 1997 and “Elizabeth I” in 2007. The latter win was one of two that night for Mirren, who also won for her turn in “The Queen” on the film side en route to her Best Actress Oscar. She is one of four actors to have won two Globes in one night.

Those were the last times she’s won a Globe, so perhaps it’s fitting that the actress could make her return to the Globe stage with her portrayal of another monarch. Mirren’s received sterling notices for her portrayal of the titular empress, Russia’s longest-serving female ruler, and Hollywood Foreign Press Association members love a good ol’ period costume drama.
Mirren in second place in our odds, behind Emmy champ Michelle Williams (“Fosse/Verdon”), but she has the backing of two of our Editors and one Expert. “Unbelievable’s” Toni Collette and Merritt Wever are in third and fifth, respectively, with Joey King (“The Act”) sandwiched in between.
Even if Mirren doesn’t walk away with her third limited series/TV movie actress statuette, she could still nab another record: an eighth nomination would tie her with Jessica Lange for the most in the category.
