In this week’s exclusive clip from episode 13 of “Hell’s Kitchen” Season 18, Bret Hauser, as usual, is pretty much left verklempt by last week’s roller coaster ride. Remember that the 34-year-old veteran’s first go-around on the show in Season 14, he was forced to quit after he suffered an injury. Now the emotional chef who never met a challenge that he couldn’t make Italian has received a coveted black jacket and is among the final five competitors.
While the fivesome celebrate in the Black Jacket Lounge, fellow veteran Ariel Contreras-Fox comforts Hauser, who tends to put himself through a wringer every time he gets closer to the prize. She pats his shoulder and asks him, “Are you all right, buddy?” His reply: “This means more to me than y’all could ever imagine. This is surreal, man.”
Bret then drops some details about his past to Ariel and Heather Williams, the third veteran to make it through. “You know, growing up in the neighborhood I lived in, I became a product of it. So man, never in a million years would I have ever thought that I would be here right now.”
Then the personal chef based in Fort Lauderdale shares maybe a little more than he should about the trouble he was in when he was 20-years-old. Yes, his eyes moisten. And, hey, are those tears I see Heather wiping away?
With the two-episode finale just around the corner on Feb. 8, matters will get even more combustible, if the preview from last week’s episode proves true, when the five surviving players will have to work in the same kitchen for the first time. You know what they say about too many cooks. Tune in to Fox this Friday at 9 p.m. ET/PT to see who gets cut next.
