Nothing but sunshine for ‘Project Runway’ front-runner Hester: She widens her lead in our odds

It took three challenge wins, but last week Hester Sunshine finally took the lead in our “Project Runwayodds on who will win the season. Though she didn’t get a high score in last week’s Elton John challenge, “The Stitch is Back,” she didn’t get a low score either, so she has extended her lead in our forecasts. Do you agree she’s more and more safely out front with each passing week? You can make your own predictions for tonight’s show here in our predictions center.

Our odds are determined by combining the predictions of “Runway” fans who give us their forecasts here every week, and going into “Stitch” we gave Sunshine leading odds of 41/20, just a notch ahead of Sebastian Grey, who had been our front-runner in prior weeks. Going into tonight’s 10th episode, Sunshine’s odds are currently a little better (15/8), while Grey remains a close second with 23/10 odds.

Grey hasn’t gotten any low scores this season yet, but he hasn’t gotten very many high scores either: a win in “The Future is Here” and a second-place result in “All the Rage.” He has gotten nothing but safe scores for the last six weeks in a row, which pales in comparison to Sunshine’s track record of three wins, one high score and just one low score (for her taffeta pasties in “Elegance is the New Black,” when she had immunity).

I don’t always see eye-to-eye with the judges when it comes to Sunshine’s looks (I think her turkey suit in “Stitch” probably belonged in the bottom three), but it’s undoubtedly true that she has one of the clearest design perspectives on the show. You can’t mistake a Hester Sunshine look for any other designer’s. It’s just a matter of whether she can maintain the right fashionable balance and avoid taking her kitsch too far for the judges to forgive.

Do you agree that Sunshine is sitting pretty, or might she be one wrong stitch away from elimination?
