The 2019 Daytime Emmys are cooking up another Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition to longtime “Judge Judy” host Judy Sheindlin, the television academy is also going to honor the career accomplishments of TV chef Jacques Pepin. The honorary prize will be bestowed on Pepin during the Creative Arts Awards on May 3 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California. Sheindlin will be awarded at the main Emmys ceremony two days later on May 5.
Television academy president and CEO Adam Sharp said in a statement, “The Daytime Emmy Awards recognize both the excellence and vibrant diversity of daytime television programming. Chef Jacques Pepin epitomizes both, uniquely shaping the culinary genre which has grown to become one of the mainstays of our medium.”
Daytime Emmys senior vice president and executive producer David Michaels added, “Daytime television has been forever changed by the culinary efforts of Jacques Pepin. Pepin’s body of work helped inspire not just millions of cooks at home, but also the myriad staples of culinary television we now see.”
Born in France, the 83-year-old Pepin’s TV appearances go back decades. That includes “Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home” with Julia Child, for which they won the Daytime Emmy for Best Service Show Host in 2001. Most recently he was nominated for Best Culinary Host in 2016 for his series “Heart and Soul.” And on top of that, he was named a Chevalier in France’s Order of Arts and Letters and the Order of Agricultural Merit. He additionally won France’s Legion of Honor.
