Monday night on “The Voice,” Jej Vinson of Team Kelly Clarkson performed Khalid and Normani‘s “Love Lies” for his live Top 24 performance. This 22-year-old pop artist from the Philippines is already an early front-runner to win Season 16, but was his latest performance good enough to earn America’s vote? Let us know down in the comments section whether YOU voted Jej into the next round.
Since there was no time in the bloated performance show for the coaches to give their critiques, America must rely entirely on their own gut. And things are looking for Jej to advance since, as of press time, his video has by far the most YouTube clicks (watch above).
“Ahhhh what just happened?! That was so fun!” Jej tweeted following his live performance of “Love Lies.” This is hardly the first time the Philippines native has gone viral thanks to “The Voice” — after all, his blind audition of “Passionfruit” was the most viewed of all of the Season 16 artists.
Last week Jej’s Cross Battle against LB Crew resulted in him making it into the Top 24. Previously in the Battle rounds he took on “Jealous” and was Kelly’s choice to advance over Beth Griffith-Manley. On the off chance that he doesn’t make it through based on America’s votes, Kelly still has one final save that she can use to keep him in the competition.
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the performance: “Closing things down for Team Kelly is her R&B sensation Jej Vinson singing ‘Love Lies.’ Jej has great musicality and one of the best voices in the competition. I like that he sings contemporary hits and we have a good idea what sort of artist he wants to be. Tonight is another good performance and it’s the type of music I love hearing him sing, but I’m not sure if the masses will love it. That said, he’s got nothing to worry about at this juncture, he should sail into the Top 13.”
