“I just peed!” exclaimed Jenny McCarthy after being the only judge to correctly guess Ana Gasteyer was hiding behind the Tree costume on “The Masked Singer” Season 2. Even though Gasteyer and Ken Jeong shared the stage (and a standing ovation) on Fox’s live retelling of “A Christmas Story” in 2017, he had no idea she was the one dressed up as the flamboyant holiday decoration. Did you correctly guess Tree’s true identity on Tuesday’s episode? Watch the reveal video above and then sound off down in the comments section.
When it was time for the panelists to make their final guesses, it seemed as though McCarthy threw out Gasteyer’s name almost on a whim. “I just kept getting comedy week after week, like a comedic actress,” she theorized. “When I saw the Broadway clues it brought me more east coast, so I just stuck with ‘SNL.’ I went Cheri Oteri, then Molly Shannon, then I kept trying to think of more people — um, Ana Gasteyer.”
When host Nick Cannon interrupted to tell her he needed a single name, McCarthy replied, “All right, fine, I’m gonna go with Ana Gasteyer.” She was right! For the record, the other judges guessed such famous faces as Amy Sedaris, Bebe Neuwirth and Mariah Carey. Gasteyer starred on “Saturday Night Live” from 1996 to 2002.
Jeong joked he “forgot” he was in “A Christmas Story,” to which Gasteyer responded, “It wasn’t that long ago, Ken.” She added, “I sang a major number and I believe — I don’t mean to embarrass you — but you did at one point fall to your knees and said, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe you can sing.'” This marked the second time a co-star of Jeong’s went undetected right under his nose, following his “Dr. Ken” sister Margaret Cho, aka the Poodle from Season 1.
With Tree out of the competition, only five “Masked Singers” are still in the running to earn the Golden Mask later this month: Flamingo, Fox, Leopard, Rottweiler and Thingamajig. Who do you think will be eliminated next, and who will go on to win this wild and wacky reality TV show?
