Jodie Comer (‘Killing Eve’) overcomes vote-splitting to win Best Drama Actress Emmy over co-star Sandra Oh

Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”) just overcame massive vote-splitting at Sunday’s Emmy ceremony to win Best Drama Actress over co-star Sandra Oh. Only eight of Gold Derby’s 31 Experts accurately forecasted Comer’s victory. Conversely, a whopping 21 were confident Oh would prevail despite both leading ladies clamoring for votes. This was Comer’s first career acting Emmy nomination, while Oh previously came up short for her roles on “Grey’s Anatomy” (2005-09) and “Killing Eve” (2018). This year’s other five nominees were Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Laura Linney (“Ozark”), Robin Wright (“House of Cards”), Mandy Moore (“This Is Us”) and Viola Davis (“How to Get Away with Murder”).

Here are the eight Emmy Experts that have bragging rights for placing Comer in their #1 positions: Michael Ausiello (, Jen Chaney (Vulture), Eric Deggans (NPR), Pete Hammond (Deadline Hollywood), Ed Martin (Media Village), Robert Rorke (New York Post), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) and Matt Webb Mitovich (TVLine). See all Experts’ predictions.

Comer plays psychotic killer Villanelle on the BBC America drama, a role for which she recently triumphed at the BAFTA TV Awards. Her cat-and-mouse relationship with Oh’s MI5 agent Eve Polastri has kept fans entertained for two seasons, with hopefully many more to come.

Below, see how all seven Best Drama Actress nominees placed in our Experts’ rankings:
