Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is entering the “Veep” series finale episode “Veep” as her 2019 Emmy Awards submission for Best Comedy Actress. This installment aired May 12 and was the seventh episode of the seventh season for the HBO show.
In this installment, former President Selina Meyer (Louis-Dreyfus) is desperately trying to become the nominee again for her party. She offers the Vice President slot to hated rival Jonah (Timothy Simons) and slyly takes down front-runner Tom James (Hugh Laurie). She must sacrifice her devoted assistant Gary (Tony Hale) to the FBI to save herself.
Louis-Dreyfus has prevailed in this category for all six prior seasons of the show. Along with acting wins for “Seinfeld” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” she is currently tied with Cloris Leachman for the most prime-time Emmy wins of all time at eight. Another one this year will break the record. For the 2019 contest, she is competing against past winners Christina Applegate (“Dead to Me”), Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) and Catherine O’Hara (“Schitt’s Creek”), plus previous nominees Natasha Lyonne (“Russian Doll”) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”).
