Kanard Thomas vs. JT Rodriguez: Who won 2nd ‘The Voice’ Comeback Stage battle for Bebe Rexha? [WATCH]

Even though Kanard Thomas and JT Rodriguez failed to earn a chair turn during “The Voice” Season 16 blind auditions, their journeys weren’t quite over as fifth coach Bebe Rexha asked both of them to return for the Comeback Stage. Just like last season, the Comeback Stage is a place where eliminated artists have a chance of ultimately returning in the live shows. So who won this all-important battle between Kanard and JT and advanced to the next round? Watch the second “The Voice” Comeback Stage video above.

Bebe decided to pair up Kanard and JT because, “I thought it’d be cool to have two soulful singers go at each other.” As a reminder, Kanard is a loving father who works on a B.B. King blues ship where he’s gone for months at a time, and JT is a fitness coach who wants to start pursing his true passion in life: music.

For his battle song, Kanard chose Marvin Gaye‘s “Let’s Get It On” and instantly received a “Woooooo!” in response from Bebe. “You shouldn’t be on a cruise ship,” she told him after his first rehearsal. Following his final performance Bebe was disappointed that Kanard “didn’t hit the high note” that they worked on, but still praised him for being “perfection from top to bottom.”

JT wasn’t chosen by any of the main four coaches — Adam Levine, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton — because they thought his tone sounded like he was 70-90 years old. He chose T-Bone Walker‘s “Stormy Monday” as his battle song because it’s “a little more natural” for his bluesy voice. After the final performance Bebe told JT that “voices like yours never come along like that.”

After a brief deliberation, Bebe announced, “The winner of this battle is … Kanard!” Kanard now joins last week’s Comeback Stage winners Nathan & Chesi, a married couple, with the third act being chosen next week. Once Bebe has her team of three secured, they will compete against three eliminated artists from the upcoming “The Voice” battle rounds.
