During Monday’s Top 10 performance episode of “The Voice,” Katie Kadan of Team John Legend blew the roof off the studio with her rendition of Adele‘s “Rolling in the Deep.” This front-runner to win Season 17 did such a great job belting out the pop song that rival coach Blake Shelton even wondered if there was a “conspiracy” afoot. “I started creating conspiracy theories in my head,” Blake admitted after the 38-year-old Chicago native received a standing ovation from all four coaches. “I was like, this can’t be real. This can’t be really happening on this show right now. She can’t be that good. This is a set-up deal. There’s no way somebody is this good who hasn’t already made it in the music industry.”
Kelly Clarkson agreed with Blake’s assessment of Katie, chiming in, “You’re so unique. It’s not only your voice as in vocal ability, it’s your voice in size that’s coming out. You light a fire. You make everyone happy. And I love your growl.”
John made Katie’s day by telling her stories of how everyone from his own family members to a random woman at Target were obsessed with her. “Everyone loves you, Katie!” he proclaimed.
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the performance: “Continuing her thread of taking on some of music’s biggest voices, Katie Kadan (finally) chose an Adele song. Her performance of ‘Rolling in the Deep’ tonight offered her the deep soul and theatrical opportunity that is so well suited for her voice. No one else in the competition could manage the huge chorus of the song and she made that very clear by handling it to perfection.”
