Wow! Katie Kadan’s ‘Without You’ cover makes John Legend ‘pity’ all other singers in ‘The Voice’ Top 11 [WATCH]

Monday night on “The Voice,” Chicago native Katie Kadan opened Top 11 week with a powerful cover of “Without You.” Her coach John Legend was up on his feet the entire time, rocking out to her performance as she stood confidently at center stage in her silver gown. Following her song, which was chosen by the fans, John proclaimed he felt “pity” for all of the other artists who had to follow her. Do you think America will vote Katie into the Top 10 of Season 17? “That was utterly stunning,” John told Katie when the audience finally calmed down enough for the coaches to speak. “You know, you’ve done so many different flavors of songs on this show. And just to have you doing a classic ballad like that and delivering it with such nuance, such grace, such poise, such control, and then when it called for it to give us those powerful, spiritual, anointed notes, it was incredible. I pity anyone that has to sing after you today, honestly.”

For her part, rival coach Kelly Clarkson was almost speechless for the first time ever. “That is how that song should be sang, ma’am,” Kelly raved. “That was so good. It was so heartfelt, emotional. The perfect amount of rasp. The perfect amount of staying classic to the melody, because everybody loves this song, but also doing your own thing on it. You’re mind-blowingly good.”

Will Katie go on to become the second consecutive “The Voice” champion from Team John Legend? Just last season when John was a brand new coach, he prevailed thanks to pop/soul singer Maelyn Jarmon (see the full winners list).

In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper Denton Davidson had this to say about the performance: “Katie is situated center stage in a flowing gown when she begins the emotional ballad. She’s sticking with the original melody but her low, husky range adds it’s own dimension to the song. It feels more like a 80’s rock ballad. Overall, Katie delivered and I definitely think her fans will respond in big enough numbers to keep her safe. Katie received a standing ovation from the coaches.”
