When plane crash survivor Kechi returns in the Finals performance episode of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” she’ll bring the audience to tears with her cover of Sia‘s “Opportunity.” In this exclusive video clip (watch above), Kechi is wearing a stunning silver-and-white dress while standing still on stage next to a grand piano. Kechi has made the bold decision to completely strip down the song so that it’s just her and the piano. Do you think Kechi’s performance is strong enough to win the title of “Champion”? Tune in Monday at 8/7c on NBC to watch the full performance.
Two weeks ago Kechi took on Estelle‘s “Conqueror” and wowed judge Simon Cowell so much that he hit his Golden Buzzer. “Based on what I’ve seen tonight, I’m gonna be honest with you: I didn’t really like it that much,” Simon said in his classic deadpan delivery before adding, “I actually loved it!” Simon then jumped out of his chair and smacked his hand down on the Golden Buzzer, sending her straight through to this week’s Finals.
As golden confetti rained down on Kechi, Simon walked up on stage and wrapped his arms around her. “I have always wanted to do that for you,” Simon told Kechi, who was weeping uncontrollably. “You so deserve it. This is what defines the word ‘Champion.'” Kechi’s voice first caught Simon’s ear during her Season 12 audition in 2017, when she revealed that she was the sole survivor of a devastating plane crash that resulted in her suffering third-degree burns over 65% of her body.
Host Terry Crews asked Kechi what it meant for Simon to send her through to the Finals and she emotionally responded, “Mom, I got the Golden Buzzer!” Simon told the audience that his “one regret” was that he never got to give Kechi the Golden Buzzer (instead his Season 12 pick was deaf singer-songwriter Mandy Harvey), which is why he was so proud to honor her during “AGT: Champions.”
Joining Kechi in Monday’s Finals episode of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” are singers Susan Boyle, Angelica Hale, Cristina Ramos, Paul Potts and Brian Justin Crum, card magician Shin Lim, extreme knife throwers Deadly Games, sand artist Kseniya Simonova and comedian Preacher Lawson. In addition, two wild cards will be joining the finalists: magician Jon Dorenbos and ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer.
