Kechi Okwuchi got the Golden Buzzer from judge Simon Cowell on the January 28 episode of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.” That sent this charming singer straight through to the finals on this spin-off of “AGT.” For Kechi to be singled out over two winners of “America’s Got Talent” — performance artist Kenichi Ebina (2013) and and ventriloquist Paul Zerdin (2015) — told us to keep an eye on her in the final.
Watch her soaring performance of the Sia song “Opportunity” in the video above and then vote in the poll below as to which of the 12 acts you want to win the first season of “AGT: The Champions.” And be sure to sound off with your thoughts on the show and who did (and didn’t) make the final.
In our live blog of the “AGT” finale, we had this to say about Kechi’s singing “Tonight she sang a ballad that spoke directly to the position that she and every contestant on the show is in when they’re on the AGT stage. The crowd roared in a standing ovation following her performance and through a beaming smile Simon called her one of his favorite contestants and a star. Mel was the only judge to put forth a negative critique, saying that she got lost in the song.”

Kechi first came to fame on season 12 of “America’s Got Talent” in 2017. This plane crash survivor captured America’s heart with her incredible story. She made it to the top 10 and wowed the crowd with her cover of Estelle‘s anthem “Conquero.”
Kechi lost to singing ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer in the 2017 “AGT” final. However, she has gone one step further than her one-time rival in this new competition. Darci Lynn lost the superfans vote to rock opera singer Cristina Ramos, the winner of the 2016 edition of “Spain’s Got Talent” and is only in the final because she was chosen as a wild card.
