Better late than never! Gracee Shriver, a 16-year-old from Oklahoma, just earned the final spot on Kelly Clarkson‘s “The Voice” team for Season 17. The aspiring country singer performed “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves during Monday’s episode and caused Kelly and Gwen Stefani to turn their chairs around. However, Gracee decided to join Team Kelly after the two bonded over their love of pop/country artist Kelsea Ballerini, a former “Voice” coach for the comeback stage. Watch Gracee’s “The Voice” blind audition video above.
“Gracee, I think that you’re super talented,” Kelly told the talented teen. “You have a certain style that is so distinct.” When Gracee admitted that she went to one of Kelly’s Oklahoma concerts, the coach strutted confidently up and down the stage and shouted, “That is so interesting!”
Before Gracee made her big decision, Gwen also tried to woo her onto her team. “Gracee, this is meant to be, honestly. Right Blake?” Ever the gentleman, Gwen’s boyfriend Blake Shelton quickly added his approval. Gwen continued, “Your voice is a character voice. I almost got chills because it was such a unique sound. You know, through this whole boot camp of being on ‘The Voice,’ there’s so many things that you can do to stylize even more. I only have one more spot left and I would love to work with you so desperately.”
Since Blake’s team was full, he tried to get Gracee to join Team Gwen to keep her “in the family.” That’s when Kelly jumped out of her chair and complained about “getting ganged up on.” She added, “I’m not dating Blake, but my husband manages him.”
In his “The Voice” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the performance: “High school tennis player Gracee Shriver was up next with her take on ‘Rainbow’ by Kacey Musgraves. With Blake’s team full both Gwen and Kelly were ready to take advantage of Gracee’s strong country voice. Both women were drawn to her unique sound, but Gracee was more drawn to Kelly’s connection to her personal idol Kelsea Ballerini.”
