One of the saddest things about the conclusion of “Game of Thrones” — apart from who died, who said goodbye and who was exiled — was that it meant the end of “Gay of Thrones,” the Funny or Die web series in which “Queer Eye” star Jonathan Van Ness recapped the show through his uniquely fabulous perspective. Well, “Game” and “Gay” are both nominated for Emmys this year, so Lena Headey joined Van Ness to wish each other luck. Watch the special Emmy edition of “Gay of Thrones” above.
“You’re basically like the Beyonce of the Emmys, if Beyonce hadn’t done ‘Homecoming’ on Netflix,” says Van Ness about Headey’s impressive five nominations for the series. This year she’s nominated for Best Drama Supporting Actress alongside her co-stars Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner and Gwendoline Christie. So what would the ruthless Queen Cersei do to finally secure that trophy? “Are you suggesting that I would murder to get an Emmy?” she asks. “If that worked, I’d have done it every year.” Perhaps bribery, though? “I hope the academy remembers a Lannister always pays their debts,” which of course means “we’ll give them loads of money.”
“Gay of Thrones” is nominated for Best Short Form Variety Series for the third time and Van Ness along with it as an executive producer. And “Game of Thrones” is nominated a record 32 times including Best Drama Series, which it’s hoping to win for a record-tying fourth time. Van Ness hopes the Emmys make like the notoriously incestuous “Game of Thrones” and “keep it in the family and we can secure all these trophies, honey.”
