Lukas and Falco earns final wild card spot of ‘America’s Got Talent’ Season 14: Can they become the next Olate Dogs?

Two weeks ago the last remaining animal act of “America’s Got Talent” Season 14, Lukas & Falco, was cruelly eliminated by judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough. At the time I wrote that fans should “keep your paws crossed for a wild card spot,” and as it turns out, I was right! The fan favorite dog act has just been announced as the final wild card of 2019, and they’re set to perform in next week’s Semifinals 2 round. Will Lukas & Falco become the next animal act to prevail after Olate Dogs in Season 7? If so, that’d make them the first wild card to ever win “AGT.”

Joining Lukas & Falco next week, just one week before the season finale, will be blacklight artist Alex Dowis, singer Chris Klafford, chorale group Detroit Youth Choir, magician Dom Chambers, opera singer Emanne Beasha, show tune singer Luke Islam, guitarist Marcin Patrzalek, stand-up comedian Ryan Niemiller, acrobatic dancers V. Unbeatable and vocal group Voices of Service. The performance show airs Tuesday, September 10 and the results episode is set for Wednesday, September 11.

As a refresher, Lukas & Falco failed to earn enough votes from America to advance to the Semifinals, but since they placed in the middle group they were featured in that week’s Dunkin’ Save. Stand-up comedian Jackie Fabulous ended up winning the live Dunkin’ Save, which meant the judges were forced to choose between Lukas & Falco and Marcin; they chose the 18-year-old Polish guitarist.

In explaining his decision to pick Marcin, Howie said his gut told him to go with “something I’ve never seen before.” He added, “I’m a huge fan of dog acts but I’m jaded by Olate Dogs and people who’ve been here in the past.” He also referenced Sara and Hero, finalists in Season 12 who returned in this winter’s “AGT: The Champions” spinoff series.

Gabrielle informed Lukas, “You did teach that dog new tricks, I don’t care what anybody says,” which was a stark rebuke to Howie’s comments from the previous night. She continued on by telling Lukas & Falco, “You definitely stepped it up. You raised the bar. You guys did amazing.” However, Gabrielle ultimately voted for the guitarist because, “I have to go with a once in a lifetime, once in a generation talent, and that is Marcin.”

Simon echoed their thoughts by saying Marcin had a real chance of winning the show, then gave the talented teen a third vote over Lukas & Falco. Now it turns out the dog act has another shot of trying to impress the judges and America. Can they pull off a victory?
