Julianne Hough‘s Golden Buzzer, aspiring Broadway singer Luke Islam, finally returned to the “America’s Got Talent” stage during the Quarterfinals 1 episode. “I am so proud that I am your Golden Buzzer,” the judge told the preteen following his live show performance of “You Will Be Found” from the Tony-winning musical “Dear Evan Hansen.” Do you think Luke will receive enough votes from America to send him through to the Semifinals? Watch the performance video above, read the judges’ comments below and make your predictions before Wednesday’s results show.
Julianne Hough: “Well, first of all, Luke, you did not disappoint with that Golden Buzzer because what you just did right now just proved what an incredible voice, what an incredible performer you are. And I just wanna point out, you are 12 years old? What in the heck? That voice is undeniable. I am so proud that I am your Golden Buzzer. I love you.”
Simon Cowell: “Standing on that stage between acts when we’re not live is nerve-wracking. For you, young man, to come back at your age with that confidence and that poise and that control. And there were moments — I’m gonna watch that back tonight and I’m gonna shut my eyes to make me realize and remind me how good you are, because that shouldn’t come from you at 12 years old. And you know who you are and where you want to go. That to me is so important. You’ve done yourself really proud.”
Howie Mandel: “You know, people love this show. They ask me why do you think it does so well. I think it’s because we’re watching people’s dreams come true, and I think we just watched your dream come true. I predict you’re gonna be on a Broadway stage. You’re gonna be starring.”
Gabrielle Union: “You’re a world class talent, Luke, and I think the whole world just fell in love with you again and again and again. Please vote. He is amazing, you guys.”
In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the performance: “Broadway superfan Luke Islam earned Julianne’s Golden Buzzer to earn his spot in the live shows. Tonight he lived his dream with a performance of “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen, nailing every single note perfectly. The smile on his face when he finished said it all, but that didn’t stop the judges from saying how “undeniable” he was. Simon was most impressed by his control and poise for a twelve year old, in addition to him knowing exactly who he is and in what direction he wants to take his career.”
