Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Olivia Colman is entering “Episode 2.4” from “Fleabag” as her 2019 Emmy Awards submission for Best Comedy Supporting Actress. This program streamed May 17 and was the fourth episode of the second season for the Amazon Prime show.
In this flashback-heavy installment, Fleabag (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) remembers the day of her mother’s funeral when Godmother (Colman) was already going after her father. Godmother warns both Fleabag and Claire (Sian Clifford) they might be losing friends because they are “perpetually in pain.” It was one of the most prominent days in putting her on a self-destructive path.
This is the second career Emmy nomination for Colman, who won an Oscar earlier this year for “The Favourite.” For the 2019 contest, she is competing against last year’s champ Alex Borstein (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), past winner Kate McKinnon (“Saturday Night Live”), returning nominees Anna Chlumsky (“Veep”) and Betty Gilpin (“GLOW”), plus rookie contenders Sian Clifford (“Fleabag”), Sarah Goldberg (“Barry”) and Marin Hinkle (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”).
