What’s really ahead to win the Oscar for Best Picture? “It all depends on who you talk to,” notes Brian Truitt (USA Today) in our slugfest chat with my Gold Derby colleague Susan Wloszczyna (who formerly worked for USA Today). “I feel it’s still ‘A Star Is Born – because it’s not problematic. It swept the guilds for major (nominations). It seems like the only thing that makes sense to me.”
“Not problematic” is a reference to the widespread griping about rivals “Green Book” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Controversies surrounding those films lead Susan to believe that “Roma” is actually out front.
“Alfonso Cuaron is winning stuff,” Susan explains. “‘Roma’ might be the compromise between the frontrunners.”
