‘Outlander’ Emmy submissions: Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton and more vie for nominations

Emmy nominations voting started on June 10, so the television academy has publicly released the ballots containing all the contenders who have been submitted for consideration. Who did “Outlander” put forward in the hopes of securing noms for its fourth season? Scroll down for the complete list of contenders.

The Starz romance is eligible for its fourth season, which consisted of 13 episodes and aired from November 2018 until January 2019. This year found Jamie and Claire (Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe) washed up on the shores of North Carolina as their daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) searched for them across time. As Starz revealed to us earlier, Heughan, Balfe and Skelton have all been submitted for Emmy consideration, as has Richard Rankin as Brianna’s love interest Roger. They’re the only four regular cast members on the ballot, while “Orphan Black” alum Maria Doyle Kennedy is the sole guest performer being considered for her role as Jamie’s aunt Jocasta Cameron in the episode “Do No Harm.”

The “Outlander” submissions may prove savvy as the series limited most categories to just one candidate (the sole exception is the cinematography race where two episodes have been entered). That means academy members who are fans of the show won’t have their votes split among multiple contenders, possibly increasing the show’s chance of nominations.

But it might still be an uphill battle for the series, which in its first three seasons only earned four nominations in Creative Arts categories: for music composition in 2015, production design in 2016 and costumes in 2016 and 2018. It has yet to compete in top categories, though the Golden Globes have honored the show with six total nominations, including four in a row for leading lady Balfe (2016-2019).
